What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a grappling-based martial art. The central theme of BJJ is to develop the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force the opponent to submit. Due to the fact that control is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, much of the technique of BJJ is centered around the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions.
How can this program benefit me or my loved ones in real life?
The best aspect of BJJ is that it teaches you how to control and overcome opponents who have greater size, strength, and aggression than you. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grips, and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limitations of the human body.
My child struggles with confidence and discipline. Would this program be good for him/her?
Absolutely. Our martial art requires discipline, consistency, and teamwork. We strive to accomplish that by providing a fun and welcoming family environment. Once these things line up, BJJ will yield incredible results that are sure to increase a person's confidence regardless of age or walk in life.
Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe to practice?
Yes. BJJ is a submission-based martial art, which means that when one opponent is rendered helpless, a tap or series of taps signal the other opponent to stop. This aspect of BJJ is unique compared to other combat sports because it allows you to practice moves and techniques during "rolls" (sparring sessions) with full force and intensity without significant risk.
